Resources for all participants

Hi all,

Please have a look at the following websites and links. We recommend you buy the books (I've sourced the cheapest websites) and subscribe to the mailing list. It is not necessary to buy The Performing Arts Yearbook, it can be found at your local library.

The Broadcasting, Entertainment, Cinematograph and Theatre Union

BECTU is the UK's media and entertainment trade union, representing theatre and film technicians. BECTU’s industry standards for pay rates, hours etc. for technicians are used throughout theatre in the UK and are therefore essential knowledge!


Theatrical Management Association

TMA is the pre-eminent UK wide organisation dedicated to providing professional support for the performing arts. They run a network of middle to large scale theatres across the UK and provide advice and information in relation to these, including industry-standard contracts for performances in their venues.


The Society of London Theatre
A trade association that represents the producers, theatre owners and managers of the major commercial and grant-aided theatres in central London.

Independent Theatre Council
The Independent Theatre Council is the management association and industry lead body for performing arts organisations and individuals working in the field of drama, dance, opera and music theatre, mime and physical theatre, circus, puppetry, street arts and mixed media. ITC provides training, information, advocacy and advice for small and medium sized performing arts companies on areas such as contracts, rates of pay, legal & HR issues, management and much more.


Equity

Equity is the UK Trade Union representing professional performers and other creative workers from across the spectrum of the entertainment, creative and cultural industries. It recommends minimum rates of pay for performers, directors and so on.

Arts Council

The national development agency for the arts, and the main body that funds the arts in England.

Arts Marketing Association

The AMA is the professional development body open to all arts professionals passionate about bringing arts and audiences together in the UK and internationally.

Street Arts Network

ISAN is an independent group of presenters and promoters of street arts throughout the UK working to develop the art form through networking, information, collaboration, lobbying, training and advocacy.



The Place Artist Development

The Place (the UK’s premier centre for contemporary dance) runs many professional development projects and programmes for independent dance artists.
