Big Art People

We run art and music projects in schools and communities. The work is varied and challenging. Over the last 18 months we have run over 40 projects, and have worked with thousands of children and adults.

We are looking for someone to help during busy periods, especially June and July. So the applicant must be flexible as we cannot offer regular working hours. We are based in Staffordshire but work all over the country, so your living close to us is not crucial.

Work will involve generally assisting during workshops, helping groups of children, finishing off work etc. with scope for potentially running your own workshops in the future.

It would suit a fellow creative practitioner, an ex-teacher looking to supplement their income, an arts graduate looking for experience, or indeed anyone who enjoys working with children and fancies getting involved in some big, collaborative art projects.

Work will be on a freelance basis, and you will be responsible for your own tax and national insurance contributions. An Enhanced CRB is also preferable.

Send me a CV and/or letter of interest and I’ll get in touch.

Barbican Media Relations Internship (Theatre)

We are offering a three-months’ internship working with the Media Relations Manager and Media Relations Officer on the bite international theatre programme.

The internship is a unique chance to learn about Media Relations in the arts. The successful candidate will be able to get hands on experience by researching and writing press releases, helping to run photocalls and answering journalists’ enquiries by telephone and email, in addition to providing administrative support for the Media Relations team.

You will be working on the current bite10 season and beyond, which sees a thrilling combination of companies and artists perform in the Barbican Theatre, the Pit, and in and around the Barbican Centre. Some of the highlights of the next season are Ninagawa’s Mushashi, and The National Theatre of Scotland’s Peter Pan.

Please note this internship is unpaid but travel expenses up to Zone 6 and lunch are covered. In addition, the internship offers the opportunity to see a wide range of performances and to gain experience of working with a close-knit team on the most extensive international theatre programme in the country. Previous interns have gone on to gain full time employment within the industry, following successful completion of the Barbican internship.

The internship will start on Tuesday 6 April and to ensure quality of experience, the internship duration is up to three months. The department works 5 days per week, Monday – Friday, and working hours are 10.00 – 18.00 but some flexibility is offered to interns to accommodate other commitments. Please state in your covering letter if you cannot commit to five days a week. We also encourage interns to attend press nights, for which time off in lieu is given.

Closing date for applications: Friday 19 March 2010, 12pm. No late entries shall be accepted. Please note that only successful applicants will be contacted.
Interviews: Wednesday 31 March 2010.
